Hi- I was wondering if the photo you show overlooking the quarry is still part of the Big king Reserve and are dogs allowed off leash in this area. The area I am referring to is the sports field where there are 64 steps leading up to the top of the mountain. Signage is unclear and while I know the Big King is off leash it’s the field in the bottom area that I have recently been pulled up for by a jogger who said it wasn’t till I was up the steps that I could have my dog off leash. Please help if you can – thank you.

Hi Chris. Thank you for your enquiry. As a general rule of thumb dogs are not allowed on sports fields when in use. The best authority to check this with is Auckland Council. The Council website gives some information http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/licencesregulations/dogsandanimals/exercisingyourdog/Pages/central.aspx. Most off leash dog exercise areas are well sign posted. Cheers Helen
