Stretching along the Tāmaki River, the reserve encompasses diverse landscapes, including vital bird nesting areas and farmland.

The Point England walkway runs along the length of the reserve and will become part of the 11-kilometer Tāmaki Loop. The Auckland Council has plans to restore the Tāmaki River and Omaru Creek, as well as build a community center on a portion of the site.

The Omaru River is an outlet of Orakei Basin and runs underneath Meadowbank to Apirana Ave, through Maybury Reserve and out to Wai O Taiki Bay.
